This year, the New Trier Sophomore Advisory, supervised by Peter Tragos, tackled cutting down Buckthorn around Little House in Glencoe. The project was overseen by Mitch Kiesler, his wife Heidi and Neal Mehlman who are part of Back Yard Nature Center and The Little House of Glencoe. Overall the boys had a great time and really worked hard.
Little House of Glencoe is a "one of a kind" local treasure, located in the Forest Preserve District of Cook County's "Skokie Lagoons." Run by a volunteer board that meets on the first Tuesday of each month, Little House's Mission is to provide a unique meeting place in a natural setting. The Little House of Glencoe cabin's woodsy setting with access to Forest Preserve bike trails and the canoe launch at Tower Rd. is well suited for many types of meetings, and is a perfect spot for Community Groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Indian Princess or Private Events. Little House of Glencoe is always looking for programs that would benefit the community and will explore opportunities to partner with organizations that effect the community in a positive way.
The mission of BackYard Nature Center is to promote, facilitate, and strengthen the bond between the nature environments in New Trier Township and the children and adults who wish to enrich their lives with direct experiences in nature.
